Dear Grand Canyon

I have admired you from afar for many years through movies and other people's awesome pictures. I've seen people the size of ants in perspective to your vastness and thought there was no way you could be a real thing. How could you? I've grown up vacationing at your Northern Lake Mead my entire life but only made it so far as Hoover Dam on the paddle boat my grandfather worked on for many years.
You have always been my unicorn.
As a 37 year old woman I honestly started thinking I would never meet you. How sad right?
But guess what? I diiiiiiid! I made the long drive through the desert for our day date and you didn't disappoint. You're so dependable that way.
The pictures below in no way capture your wild and free vibe, I tried my best but I kept taking pictures and looking at the preview screen thinking "No, that's not the same. Nope, that still sucks."
Here's what I came up with.

Thank you Grand Canyon for being so dang magical. I hope we meet again.

Salvation Mountain

HELLO THERE!
I've been to some really strange places in my life, and Salvation Mountain HAS to be in my top 10. It sets literally in the middle of nowhere. Suddenly you are driving along a flat dirt road and then you see a brightly colored mountain with a cross on top. Think of your Sunday church service given by Pee Wee Herman. It's VERY odd and eclectic. Perhaps that's why I sought it out, Pee Wee was my homeboy growing up.
I drove my boys across the desert because this is an amazing example of religious art. It's one mans testimony to his creative passion towards Christ.
If you live in or visit Southern California I recommend making the drive. It's a feast for your senses. I linked the website above if you'd like more info.
Video by me, music by my husband.
